Plain-language version: we collect very little, we do not sell it, and we tell you what we use. Here are the details.
What we collect
- Newsletter signups. If you subscribe to The Blotter, we store the email address you give us so we can send it.
- Tips. If you use the tip line, we receive what you send us. You can send a tip without giving your name.
- Basic analytics. Like most sites, we use analytics tools to understand which stories are read and how people find us. This may involve cookies or similar technology from third-party providers.
What we do with it
- Send you the newsletter you asked for, and let you unsubscribe any time.
- Read and act on tips.
- Understand our audience so we can cover this city better.
What we don’t do
- We do not sell your personal information.
- We do not require you to identify yourself to read the site or send a tip.
- We do not use your data to charge you for anything — including removals, which are always free.
Third-party services
We rely on service providers for things like email delivery, hosting, and analytics. Those providers handle data under their own terms. Where we use advertising or social pixels, they may set cookies; you can control cookies through your browser settings.
Your choices
You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time using the link in any email. To ask what we hold about you, or to have it deleted, write to us via the contact page. For anything about a post that mentions you, see removals & updates.
