About & Masthead
Austin Mugshot is an independent local newsroom covering crime, courts, and public safety in Austin and Travis County. Every story we run is sourced to the public record and written to inform, not to shame.
We started as an arrest-record page and grew into something more useful: a small newsroom that follows what actually happens in this city. Wrecks on I-35. Cases moving through the Travis County courts. The public-safety news that shapes a neighborhood but rarely makes the evening broadcast. We cover it plainly, from documents anyone can request, and we update our stories as cases move.
What we believe
- Everyone is presumed innocent. An arrest is an accusation, not a verdict. That line appears on every page for a reason, and we mean it.
- Cases don’t freeze in time. When a charge is dropped, dismissed, or resolved, the story should say so. We update, and we correct.
- The record can be fixed. If a case resolved in your favor or a court sealed it, we update or take down the coverage. See our removal & updates policy.
- Voice, not a bot. Real people run this newsroom. Automation helps with volume; the judgment is human.
