Community Guidelines
Last updated July 2026
The comment section is part of the paper. We want real conversation about what is happening in our city — argue, disagree, add what you know. But there are lines, and we moderate.
Keep it here
- Talk about the story, the issue, or the public event — not a private person’s private life.
- Disagree hard, but attack the argument, not the human.
- Remember the presumption of innocence. An arrest is not a conviction, and the comments should not read like a verdict.
What gets removed
- Threats of violence, or calls for anyone to be harmed.
- Harassment, pile-ons, or targeting a private individual.
- Doxxing — posting someone’s home address, phone number, workplace, or other private information.
- Slurs and hate directed at people for who they are.
- Spam, scams, and impersonation.
How moderation works
Comments are moderated by our team. We remove content that breaks these rules and can block accounts that keep breaking them. We do not remove a comment just because we, or someone else, disagree with it.
A note on responsibility. Comments are written by readers and reflect their own views, not the newsroom’s. Under federal law (Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act), a site is generally not liable for what its users post — but we still moderate, because a good comment section is worth protecting. If you see something that breaks these rules, report it through our contact page.
