Two arrested in East Riverside homicide investigation, one on capital murder warrant

Two men were arrested June 19 in connection with a homicide investigation on East Riverside Drive, according to a news release from the Austin Police Department.

APD says its Tactical Intelligence Unit, the United States Marshals Service Lone Star Fugitive Task Force, and the Travis County SWAT Team arrested David Perez and Israel Medina on warrants at 14011 FM 969. According to the department, APD Homicide had issued a warrant for Medina for capital murder, and Perez was charged with first-degree aggravated robbery for his role in the case.

The arrests stem from a shooting in the AutoZone parking lot at 2237 East Riverside Drive on Monday, June 15, per APD. The department has not released further details about the circumstances of the shooting.

Both men are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. This story will be updated as the cases move through the Travis County courts.
